William Hurt (born March 20, 1950) is an American actor.
Born in Washington, DC, he is the stepson of Henry Luce, the founder of Time Magazine. He studied theology when young, but turned to acting after attending the Juilliard School.
He appeared on stage, then debuted in films in the starring role in Altered States.
