Paul Newman (born January 26, 1925) is an American actor and film director.
He was born in Shaker Heights, Ohio to a Catholic mother and a Jewish father who owned a successful sporting goods store. He served in the Navy in World War II, in the Pacific theater. When he returned to America he attended Kenyon College and Yale University. While he was attending graduate school at Yale, he became a successful stage actor on Broadway.
